Alan Scott Haft

Introduction

"Recording my father's memories of his harrowing life began as a responsibility assigned to me as the eldest son.

I heard a powerful story of a Jewish teen from Poland imprisoned in five different Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust. A story of a young man's first taste of freedom made possible only through sheer wits and violence. A story of a determined man who emigrated to America and became a professional prize fighter - facing Rocky Marciano in the ring.

The conversations with my father became my book, Harry Haft: Survivor of Auschwitz, Challenger of Rocky Marciano, published by Syracuse University Press; a graphic novel by Reinhard Kleist, The Boxer: The True Story of Holocaust Survivor Harry Haft; and now, a major Hollywood film, The Survivor.

Along the journey, the story has given me a life purpose to garner an audience to learn lessons from my father's hard life. The story has also given me a new understanding of intergenerational trauma - of those like myself who survived the survivor." - Alan Scott Haft

Biographical History

Alan Scott Haft was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1950. A first-generation college student, he graduated from Queens College in 1973 and received his J.D. from University of Miami School of Law in 1978. Alan currently lives in Albuquerque, NM with his wife Gail. They have two adult children, Hartley and Jamie.

The story of Alan's father was first published in hardcover by Syracuse University Press in 2006. Today, Harry Haft: Survivor of Auschwitz, Challenger of Rocky Marciano is available in hardcover, paperback, and audiobook. It has been translated from English into German and Polish.

A graphic novel based on the book by acclaimed German artist Reinhard Kleist was published in Germany in 2006. The Boxer: The True Story of Holocaust Survivor Harry Haft is now available in 26 countries.

A major Hollywood film, The Survivor, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2021. The film was produced by Bron Studios, directed by Barry Levinson, and starred Ben Foster.

HBO/HBO MAX acquired the North American rights to the film. The premiere will be in April 2022.
